The Nature of Aspiration Among Adolescents.

   Nigerians do used the word Aspiration. When we listen to normal, everyday conversation, we are likely to come across an older person who is engaged in conversation with a youngster in secondary school. If on a listen to them very well, one of the questions we are likely to hear the older person put to the younger one is "what are you aspiring to?"
With each adolescent who is asked this sort of question, the answer will vary in terms of what is to be aimed at. However, the process of saying what is involved will not be different. We will find that aspiration has to do with what the individual looks up to and what he hopes to become. By its very nature, we can have the kind of aspiration which is reasonable. On the contrary, we can have aspiration that makes the individual look foolish.     Psychologists believe that there are a number of factors that will influence an individual's aspiration. These factors also affect not only the type but also the level. Aspiration is generally associated with the following factors-  ***, family, prestige, reward, self-concept and self-esteem, desire for recognition, religious affiliation, urban or rural upbringing.
